Dental disease in cats

Even if owners of cats can easily refer to symptoms of health problems suffered by their own cats, many approaches more relaxed attitude about dental health of the dog. Thus, it is no wonder that 85% of adult pets suffer from periodontal disease and tooth-related diseases are the most common feline health problems. The following is a list of the most common forms of dental diseases and their causes.

1. Periodontal disease is caused by plaque and tartar buildup on teeth. As a result, food debris and bacteria get under the gums and affects bone structure that supports the teeth. Swollen or bleeding gums and bad breath are among the symptoms of periodontal disease. As with humans, these diseases are the most common dental problems in cats. Treatment involves antibiotics, cleaning teeth or extraction, if the teeth are severely affected.

2. Stomatitis is a serious condition, often wrongly interpreted. It is believed that stomatitis is a disease of the cat's immune system the body becomes allergic to plaque.
